Chuck Squires, PhD

Dr. Charles H. Squires received his Ph.D. in biology from Purdue University in 1979. From 1979 through 1981 he was a post-doctoral associate at Cornell University studying microbial gene regulatory mechanisms. He spent the next 12 years at Synergen Inc in Boulder, Colorado where he held a number of research and leadership positions in the discovery and development of protein pharmaceuticals. In 1993, Dr. Squires joined Energy Biosystems in The Woodlands, Texas where he led biocatalyst development. He joined The Dow Chemical Company in San Diego in 1999 as senior director for biotechnology research and development. When Pfēnex Inc. was spun out of Dow at the end of 2009 Squires was named the Vice President of Discovery and Partnerships. In that role he led efforts to develop and commercialize technologies for the low cost production of protein pharmaceuticals and vaccines in Pseudomonas fluorescens, the Pfēnex Expression Technology™. He has recently retired from Pfenex, and now has a role in consulting and business and technology development for a number of prominent clients.
