Senior Research Associate & Project Manager
Sabrina Baffert is Senior Research Associate and Project Manager at Primordial Genetics and has been key in the implementation and development of Function GeneratorTM, the company’s core technology. As the first employee of PG, Sabrina has worked on various industrial biotechnology collaborations focusing on pharmaceutical, renewable fuels and agricultural applications. Using the companies’ technology, 9 years of lab experience and a track record of successful execution of R&D projects, Sabrina has isolated multiple genetic solutions in industrially relevant bacteria and yeast. She is currently the lead researcher on a multi-year microbial improvement collaboration that focuses on development of enhanced biological crop protection solutions.
Sabrina has a strong background in microbial genetics from her time at the Pathogen and Microbiome Institute in Flagstaff, AZ where she focused on mapping genetic diversity of infectious pathogens isolated from clinical samples around the world. Her research on Pseudogymnoascus destructans, a pathogen that has decimated bat populations globally, was instrumental in isolation, characterization and mapping the origin of disease. Her work at the institute as well as with PG has been presented at many conferences and was awarded for best presentation at a synthetic biology focused conference in 2016. With her interest in infectious disease, Sabrina has traveled to Jamaica and Peru on global health and clinical medicine expeditions to better understand cultural approaches to health issues. She received her B.S. In Biomedical Science from Northern Arizona University in 2013.
